on line dating..

I did it...

I signed up for Plenty of Fish.

Yes,
A dating site.

I did it for many reasons...

-I don't want to be single forever...
-How does a single mom find anyone...
-I believe there is someone out there for everyone, so be it if I have to search on line...
-Obviously striking up a convo with some random person on the internet is a bit strange, but it sure helps distract me from texting and emailing the "husband"
-I'd like to think that these boys are searching for the same reasons I am...

So, with that being said...

Let's get to the honesty of on line dating.

Call me superficial or whatever,
But...
the first thing we see is someones picture.
I don't know these people and when it comes down to it I may never meet them in person anyways.
So yes...

I'm judging a book by it's cover.
I'm ok with that.

Obviously in the "real world" you meet someone cute or not...
and you may be drawn to a person's personality.

With on line dating you've got a few pictures and a short profile.
I'll admit I might be passing up my "dream guy" based on his pictures.
But again,
I'm ok with that.

In a little over a week that I've joined I've chatted with a few people on line, even exchanged a few numbers.
At what point do you take it to the level of meeting someone?
And as a single mom when does that person become important enough to take my time away from my child?

So...
This is where I am today.

Would you like to join me on this journey?

If I never get past the on line stuff,
at the least it'll be VERY entertaining.
I can promise you that.

I'm thinking of doing a weekly update of my experience.
What do you think?

Because like today,
I chatted with what seemed to be a nice boy and he asked for something not so nice.
Or,
A guy said I seemed, "kinda cute."

If anything,
Wish me luck!

Online dating can work! It is nerve wracking but try not to get overwhelmed by it. In five months I'm marrying a man I met online. Never thought I would find someone like that, but it worked. :)

Good luck with this. I'd love to read your weekly updates. You'll find someone worthy of time away from your daughter and you'll just "feel" that it's right. I met an amazing man and after only a couple dates he wanted to meet my daughter and after that she did everything with us.

I know lots of people who are married thanks to online dating.... and I think you are going into it with a good attitude because you are right at the very least it will be entertaining and give you good blogger fodder for us to all laugh together over.

Yikes! You are brave. I would be so nervous to try that. I really hope you meet someone amazing. I've been wondering if I'll ever meet someone again since my life now revolves around my daughter. Good Luck with everything.

I have totally thought of doing this later on down the road for the exact same reasons as you stated! I think it's good to go in with a good attitude and I would be interested in weekly updates. There are plenty of online couples who met and got married! :)

anything can work! just pray and let god write your love story. I mean are u ready for all this? Have you grieved long enough? don't jump into something, to find it's nothing. Just pray and let love find you. When I didn't look is when He found me... it will be ok! I promise. I did meet a man on the internet, so i'm not against it, its great if it works out for you.

As a person who has done the online dating thing (Match and PlentyofFish), I am a proponent of it! I met my soon to be husband on Match! Plenty of Fish wasn't my favorite, because as they say, you get what you pay for...so I only actually met one good guy on there, as opposed to several on Match (where you pay a fee), but I say, go for it! I would love to hear your updates! I've been reading your blog for awhile and really respect you and what you are going through :)

Aw, there's nothing wrong with that! I've never used a dating site because the choices of "men" around here? Ick. Online dating hasn't really caught off in my neck of the woods yet.

BUT... I did meet my current boyfriend on Facebook :) haha. We've been together for almost 2 years now. If he and I were to break up I have no idea how I'd ever meet someone. You're totally right - it's a whole different ballgame as a single mom.

Good luck! <3

I swear every wedding I've been to lately has been for people who've met online. Some of my friends met their future husband on their very first online date, others it took a few years, but it works! Don't waste your time on the jerks asking for bad things, or who say you are kinda cute, wait for the one who says "You are beautiful!" (because you are!)
