yesterday...

My little lady had her ONE year doctors appointment yesterday...
I waited until after her birthday because of all her birthday festivities...

So yesterday was the day...

I scheduled it for a Friday and the latest appointment I could get...

2:20

Chick was talking up a storm to the doctor.

The doctor was VERY impressed with how verbal and SMART she was.

She said that most kids who are more verbal are slower in walking...and being active.
And vise versa.
That made me feel better...makes sense.

I of course was thinking, "Why isn't she walking...am I doing something wrong..."

But...All is good. Phew.
Appointment checked out well...

19lbs 12.8oz...my tiny tot.
29.5 inches long...

On to the shots...dun dun dun.
UGH.
First...They "forgot" to register us for our shots so we were in the waiting room for a LONG time.

Finally it was time.

I think being a parent the shots effect us more? It's awful.

She had to get 4 shots...2 in each leg.
Her laying there...screaming. Looking at me with terror. Worst feeling ever.
I scooped her up as fast as I could and started crying myself. Bleh.

Then,

She had to get her blood drawn.
She hasn't had to get blood drawn since she was born...and then it was just a little prick in the heal.
This...
This wasn't just a prick in the heal.

Oh no...
This was an adult blood draw...In the vain and everything.

I had to sit with her on my lap...one lab guy had to hold her arm straight while the other dug around with a needle to find her vain.

Awful.

Screaming, red in the face...

I couldn't do anything.

Finally it was all over. My girl was poked and picked at.

Me...I felt terrible.

Finally by 4ish we were headed home.

Bugs went down around 5:30 and didn't wake up until 10:00...I fed her some food and she played and snugged for a bit...

Back down.

This morning....oh this morning.

I woke to screams I've never heard before.
Poor girl had a fever.
Was hot and sweaty.

In pain.

I scooped her up...
Held her.
Hugged her.

What else can I do?

She's a trooper that girl.
She calmed down...
Played. Giggled.

Watched some Dora Dora.

She's obsessed with playing with the dogs food and water bowls...

She made a mess with the water.
Then slipped.

The screams we're back.

She calmed again...
Down for a nap.

Hello Saturday...It's only 10:30 AM....

It's going to be a LONG day.
VERY LONG.

Poor sweet girl. My daughter just had her one year shots too. It's awful. I hate it. I'm so glad your doctor said that about the walking and talking. It's really helpful to me, because my daughter was walking just before 11 months, but she still doesn't really talk, and she's 13 months now. Well, she talks, but it's not Adult Words.:) I'm glad it sounds like that's ok. I hope you guys have a better week.:)

Why is it Anonymous always has poor grammar?

Those hippy links with neon flashing fonts do little to convince this mother that my child shouldn't be vaccinated. I'm thinking of the world those websites are promoting--in which no child is vaccinated. Just think where would that leave us.

One website even states in their disclaimer: information contained in this website is "...not to be construed as medical advice." Now THAT is good advice.

If you're not trying to condemn Dani, then I wouldn't send her literature in hindsight that might make her feel worse about an already upsetting situation.

You are a wonderful Mama! I am a new blog reader and am really enjoying it. I lived in San Fran for a little while and miss it dearly (am back on the East coast now), so your photos hit a special place for me. And yes, giving vaccines does suck and is heartbreaking. My son had his one year shots about a month and a half ago - I think it was harder on me than him. I hope you have a great week!

Oh! I think the shots get worse as they get older. Happy Birthday Little One!

Hi there! I found your site from Little Love's blog hop (my site is surfmommie.com)

I think you know what you're doing & you're doing a great job! There is absolutely no proof that vaccines cause autism or SIDs however it is a known fact that vaccines protect children from deadly diseases.

Keep up the good work mama!

Love you.
Letti's Grammy was a nurse before she retired, and she supports vaccinations. Any time I call them shots, she corrects me.. Cause she wants me to think of them as positive.

She told me something..

Vaccinations aren't just there to protect you daughter, but did you know there are some children out there that physically can't have vaccinations, because they have medical issues, that vaccinations would hurt or even kill them.. (and newborns)

So it is nice for us to get our children vaccinated, to keep the ones that can't be protected.

The benefits outweigh the risks.. I think that is the most important thing to keep in mind. You're a great mother.. Don't let anyone make you feel differently!
