i'm no sewer...

But I think I am....

I'm sewing my Bugs a blankie...That I hope, will turn into her fav. To the point of always wanting it with her...

I originally wanted to have it finished by her first birthday...

FAILED.

It's a lot being a mom...finding the time to quilt...let alone pick your nose is slim pickings.

And you know...With MY life and all the crazy it's come across in the last year...Who was I kidding that I'd get this bad boy done by the time she was ONE!?

So, for now...I've got all my strips sewn together...My pattern is laid out...

But...

These pieces below...

Ohhhh the memories...

These are a FEW of the outfits Little Miss wore during her first year of life.

I decided I couldn't keep ALL of her teeny-tiny clothes...but I COULDN'T get rid of them either...

So I cut them up for patches to be sewn onto her quilt.

How SPECIAL right???

New goal...be done by Christmas???

Problem: I've taken a quilting class in the past...ONCE in 6th grade, I made and FINISHED a quilt. Then, maybe 3 or so years ago I took another class...I never finished the freaking thing...so, I have nooo idea what I'm doing once I've got all the pieces sewn together...

Any of my SWEET...KIND...LOVELY readers out there know how to quilt....HELP A SISTA out!

Much appreciated!

xo,

Dani

How awesome is it that you are working on this for her! I have no help for you I'm sorry... I'm trying to relearn how to sew myself and I'm no where near a quilt haha.

Good luck!!!

That is going to be so cool when you finish! I love the idea of using her old clothes... very sweet!

I have the exact same problem, infact I wrote a post about today. Glad we can relate!

I actually just made a (baby sized) quilt this weekend.. I spent just over 18 hours on it and was ready to rip the thing up by the end but it came up really well ( there are pics on my blog if you want a look..

So from where you are at.. which I think you have done REALLY well.. are you going to use the old clothes for a border? or for the back? and are you going to use batting?

I know the batting at the craft stores here is pretty pricey but you can pick up a pre-loved comforter in pretty good condition at a lot of thrift shops to use instead.. although, if you want her to have this forever it may be worth shelling out for the fancy stuff?

You've really got the hard parts out of the way.. you need to decide what kind of bordere you want, what backing you want and once you've got that sorted.. the binding, which can be tricky or you can cheat for something still really effective...

I don't normally like to link back to my own page but given it's relevance.. here's the one I made on the weekend

Any questions and I'm happy to help.. but I think you've done really well.. I love the fabrics you chose ( I think I chose a few too many) and the idea of using her baby clothes is just precious..
